Prosecutor Withdraws from Swedish Tourist Death Case in Bulgaria
17 July 2007, Tuesday
The prosecutor in charge of the case of the Swedish tourist death in Bulgaria's coastal Nessebar has given up the job before shedding any light into the circumstances of the tragedy.
Zhanet Krassimirova refused the monitor the case, saying that some of the guards at the pub, where the violent scandal unfolded, are former policemen.
The newly appointed prosecutor Vessela Peeva declined to many any comments.
The Swede, a 24-year-old man of Iraqi origin, died in hospital on Monday after suffering a number of bruises on the body and the head, police announced.
The man and a friend of his, aged 26, have been beaten up by the bodyguards of the local disco club "Help", local reports said, citing police sources.
The accident occurred after a scandal broke up in the disco club and the bodyguards intervened in the ensued scuffle. The tourists were to be taken out of the disco club, but resisted arrest and threatened the bodyguards with a knife.
Initial reports said that three bodyguards have been arrested, but the information has not been confirmed yet.
