Hier das Posting von heute
I came back from here thursday- was supposed to be coming home last monday but flight was cancelled. We were obviously there during Ike, it hit the resort fairly badly. Many of the accomodation blocks had lost their roofs, the bigger section of the buffet restaurant had a large hole in roof, Cuban restaurant lost part of its roof, the show bar lost a massive section. We lost all water and power, but that was up and running by the time we left.
The beach was ruined- the beach bar partly fell down, it was completely covered in seaweed and dirt, etc. The swimming pools were covered in dirt and slime, leaves, etc, but I'd assume they will be ok by now as they'd started cleaning them before we left. The 24 hr bar had some of its straw canapy fall down, but by our last night they were using it again. Many places were flooded, but I'm sure that will be ok by now as well. There are a few flights of stairs connecting the swimming pools, and previously, these were covered with bushes etc trained to cover the stairs and decorated with fairy lights etc- these had collapsed so that the stairs were inaccessible, and people had to climb up the steep muddy banks instead. There were fallen trees, branches, roofs all along pathways so it was like an obstacle course trying to get anywhere- you had to climb over roofs constantly. The staff at this resort are the best I've ever known- they did their very best to do all they could for us despite their own tragedies.
It could all be fixed- it was mainly that it looked such a mess I suppose, it was not damaged structurally- except for the beach bar. People were still on the beach on the tuesday after it hit with towels laid out on the cleanest bit of sand, including us, and we still swam in the sea- although it just looked like the sea at a British seaside resort!! We had to take our shower gel to the beach and wash in the sea- most people did this. It can definitley all be fixed anyway.
